I am an elementary education major and I am doing an assignment on Western Philosophies and Eastern ways of knowing, which teaches a person to be peaceful with themselves and everything around them. How can I teach a student to do this? Especially when it is a little kid. Thank you :)Hey everyone. How can you teach a child to clear their mind?
Yoga. There are some great books on using yoga in the US in classrooms. Yoga kids --tools for schools is one program that I have had training. Works greatHey everyone. How can you teach a child to clear their mind?
besides yoga, etc. you can try some very simple techniques since the child in so young.
ask the child to close his/er eyes, take deep regular breaths %26amp; just stay calm for a few seconds/minutes. the child can sit in the squatting position %26amp; leave the body relaxed or in any position s/he feels comfortable.
you can also play some soothing music in the background. also have a scented atmosphere with some incense sticks or aromatic oils/potpourri ....
once the child is relaxed %26amp; breathing regularly, ask her/im to think of/imagine any place s/he likes - the seaside, garden, playground, waterfall, or any person s/he likes - father, mother, sibling ... you can help determine this with the help of drawings, pictures, questions, etc. beforehand, so that you can then bring/guide the child's focus more specifically to that scenario.
after a few sessions, the children will learn to do this easily. then you can start to instill the values of peace, elicit their feelings, etc. more verbally. maybe even compare situations - stressful/violent vis-a-vis relaxed/peaceful ....
hope this helps
all the very best
Is this for a class? How long do you have? Yoga is great, but my transition time may only be 5 minutes - I can't meditate with 25 kids in the same room.
Give more details so teachers can help you out. Is it just one kid or is a whole class? Is this the lesson you need to teach or is it a target that you are trying to help.
try meditation.. lol
