How can you possibly clear your mind before bed?

all there is to do is think. How do you just quit thinking long enough to fall asleep?How can you possibly clear your mind before bed?
you can't stop your mind, it's like trying to stop your heart.


if you stop thinking you would be dead.


even when meditating the mind is thinking, it is concentrating on the breathing.





to get to sleep, think of something that is not stressful.How can you possibly clear your mind before bed?
I do two things actually. I can't work, my depression is so bad. So at some point in the day I have a ';mock'; bedtime. I lay in bed and let my mind go nuts, let it have all the thoughts it wants to, for 10 minutes. Then, at bedtime, when my mind starts to do that, I say to myself, no, this isn't the time for this. I will allow myself to let my mind run amok tomorrow at 2:30 for ten minutes. Now, I will listen to my cd of the ocean (or rain, or gentle music) and that is my focus. And if my mind won't cooperate, since I'm a woman and I think in a woman's voice, I do something a little silly. I envoke the voice of Patrick Stewart and use that voice to tell the other voices to be quiet and wait until their sheduled appointment to run amok (yes, sheduled since Patrick Stewart is British). That usually works on them. And I take two Benedryl before bed. Works better than any prescription sleep med I've been given.
I would love to know the answer to this question.

Also, gentle yoga is very beneficial
