What is a good way to clear your mind so you can sleep at night without using strong drugs?

don't use the computer an hour before you go to bed. if you watch tv, watch something light (like a comedy), dim the lights in your room to create a soothing atmosphere, oh yeah! and don't use the phone before bed. Also, drinking a warm cup of milk and a banana are really calming and make you sleepy.

Watch a show on TV you like. I can never stay awake when I want to.What is a good way to clear your mind so you can sleep at night without using strong drugs?
i try to picture a brick wall and focus on it without thinking about anything else just the wall.
Start reading a boring book, or watch a boring movie. Works for me every time. Good Luck!
I believe it is section 3 which addresses such insomnia treatments, at http://www.ezy-build.net.nz/~shaneris
I just take a deep breath and make sure my body isn't tense. after I do that...I just zone out and think about the good things that happened in my day. Stretching and doing breathing exercises can defiantly help. If anything..take a hot shower or bath to calm yourself down.
Write down everything that is troubling you....it gets out of your head and onto paper-it's visible, and for some reason that's very theraputic.
Bible reading and prayer
Have some warm (not hot) tea

Listen to slow quiet music... or read a book. Have darker lighting to put you in the sleeping mood.

Maybe take a generic OTC sleeping pill at least an hour beforehand (or however much before so that it is hitting you right when you wanna go to bed) if it is to the point that you have to.

meditation
Don't go to sleep when you're not tired. I think it's best to go to sleep when you're tired so that you actually WANT to go to bed. Being tired usually clears your mind of everything.

Just close your eyes and breathe.
you can always listen to smooth music...or exercise for a bit a couple of hours before you to to bed, it will get your mind off any problems going on and it gets your body tired. you can also get a nice warm bath after your exercise. That has always helped me. I hate depending on medicine to go to sleep.
lay in the dark, think of all the things you should thank god for,you would be out soon
deep breathing excersizes...focus on your breathing....
make sure the spot you sleep is perfect and i good comedy movie before you go to bed help
different things for different people.

1. physical work, a warm shower and to bed.

2. dinner, glass of wine and a book, two hours and sleep for 8

3. TV. to loose my mind from work and numbers and after I start to fall asleep the second time, I save and turn off the TV and hit the bed.

4. Email my family read a few jokes and dinner, shower and to bed.

There you have it, 40 yrs of going to bed and getting up in the morning before the sun and enjoying it too!
I start with my toes and work my way up to the top of my head focusing on relaxing each body part. Toes first then feet, calves...you get the idea. If that doesn't work I get up and walk around, sit on the couch for a bit and then try it again. Sweet dreams!
Read last week's newspaper, you will get sleep automatically..
OMG! Definately a HOT TUB!!!
To reduce stress, try relaxation exercises. Sit quietly and breathe deeply and slowly. Relax each part of your body, starting with the top of your head and finishing with your toes. Look for humor in tense situations and talk about your feelings with family members, friends or a therapist, if necessary.

Try reducing stress and anxiety with fresh, natural scents. In general they induce a calming state. In one recent study, volunteers became extremely anxious when they were confined in coffin-like tubes, but then calmed down when the tubes were infused with the smells of green apple and cucumber. These odors seem to have an impact on the Limbo systems, the emotional center of the brain.
Write down what you are thinking as you are getting into bed. This is a way of putting your thoughts and feelings aside until morning. It works for me rather well.

Reading a book for about 10 mins before sleep can also help.
I can't believe that nobody had the courage to really get honest. I spend a couple of minutes trying to feel my mind is blank. When I feel frustrated and as tired as I am, I know I can't sleep. I simply take the time and masturbate nice and slow, I often think about a girl at work or one of my wives girlfriends. After that, I sleep like a log.
listening to slow and soothing music or songs....
think of the sound of the ocean, or listen to nature sounds
Meditation. You can do it on your own, there are different types. But for beginners it's nice to get some taped guided meditations. They're surprisingly effective in relaxing you and clearing your mind.

Also, consider getting a massage once a week for three or four weeks, that's really good for releasing accumulated stress and tension.
I write all my thoughts down or listen to calm music.
have 2 pillows / more stuffed pillow..drink a cup of milk and listen to some relaxing music..avoid using computers before sleeping..it gets yor mind working rather than resting..
Read these words of wisdom.

Definatley deep breathing try to meditate and not think about anything!
I had a very hard time establishing my small software development business. I had lot of things on my mind and I could not sleep. So I devised a simple method to satisfy my mind.

I jotted down all things needed to be done on a piece of paper titled ';Things to Do';. Next day I worked according to it and crossed the works done. That night I added to it more things that became due. So everyday I ensured that I do not

missed out anything and kept a close watch on my perfrormance.

Try this. You would be able to sleep peacefully.
