I forget where I first saw it, but the meditation technique that works for me involves imagining glowqing spheres of light starting at your feet and slowly travelling up through your body until it comes out of your head. Start with red and work through the spectrum (ROY G BIV = red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet). I usually never make it all the way through, I've gotten my mind focused well before I do.
Also, check the link below:Ways to meditate and clear the mind?
You should try yoga or if you want to meditate alone, you should go in a quiet place and forget about all your worries and block out negative thoughts.
II find it easy to just focus on my breath. You can put music on but I find when I was first starting to meditate I would get distracted by the sound. Use a place you enjoy: the beach, a waterfall, under a great tree, a field, etc and stay there completely without thinking about everyday matters.
play a relaxing and/or classical music, something smooth and not fast and unorganised. then you just lie down on your bed(computer chair is for me though =)) and close your eyes and think about the things that made you overwhelmed or upset, in reference to the music.
true meditation is letting everything be as it is
meditation helps the mind let go --- accept what is, in other words
accepting starts with you, just as you are....
