Recently I keep waking up during the night, sometimes several times, thinking and worrying about various work and family issues. It then generally takes me a while to get back to sleep and means I'm tired the following day.
Does anyone have any tips on getting back to sleep quickly? How do you clear your mind? What do you do.........?Any tips on how to clear your mind to get back to sleep?
i strongly suggest valerian root. it's great at relieving stress and tension! you can get it over the counter and it's a great sleep aid! if you have one of those ';racing minds'; or ';i can't turn my head off no matter how tired i am'; then this will definitely help. you can find at your local grocery store in the pharmacy or herbal remedy section. start off taking 500-1000mgs, 30-45 minutes before you go to bed. now you can get this stuff in capsule form and it's 100% safe (my whole family has been taking it for years and our family doctor actually recommended it) however the only downside is that the more potent the brand your taking the stronger the smell. and this stuff smells AWFUL! but it's worth it. within 5-7 days you should notice a definite change in your sleep.
WARNING! i strongly do not suggest that you take Tylenol PM and booze, in any form or combination. the main ingredient in Tylenol PM and Advil pm, or benadryl for that matter is diphenhydramine. here's what happens when you take it:
You can walk into a drugstore and choose from an array of sleep aids, offered without prescription. The main ingredient of over-the-counter sleeping pills is an antihistamine. Antihistamines are generally taken for allergies, but also make you feel very sleepy. Common over-the-counter sleep medications are Sleep-Eze, Sominex, Nytol, and Unison; they contain antihistamines such as:
diphenhydramine hydrochloride,
diphenhydramine citrate, or
doxylamine succinate.
In general, over-the-counter sleep medications are not a good choice because they:
Are not intended for long-term use.
Interfere with mental alertness during the day, so you should avoid driving and other similar tasks. You may also be at risk for falling asleep
Reduce the quality of your sleep by reducing time you spend in deep sleep.
Use over-the-counter sleep medications only for transient or short-term insomnia and in conjunction with changes to your sleeping habits. Be sure to pay attention to your body鈥檚 physical response to these sleep medications.
also look at the links on the website i've listed they have some good alternate remedies! maybe what you need is just some good ol' breathing techniques or someone to talk to (ei. a trusted friend or therapist).
I hope this helps!Any tips on how to clear your mind to get back to sleep?
cut up an onion the stongest smelling one you can find put it in a siplog bag and keep it in the fridge.when you can't sleep take a few sniffs of the onion that should help! good luck
relax every muscle in your body starting at your toes. work your way up and think about your most desired dream.
First off, try handling the work and family issues before you get to the bed, or at least think them through, this may help?
Maybe your procrastinating?
Worry, it seems to me, to stems from stress, stress manifests itself in tauntness/tension in the body. To relieve tension, I believe a pre-bedtime stretching routine or a massage. For a massage, I use a Homemedics message machine, I use it for about 10 mins and I'm out like a light, might help?
Good luck
This is the process I use and it seems to help greatly.
when i wake up in the middle of the night and i cant seem to get back to sleep i usually go for a run, work out a little bit so my muscles can work themselves out. my body will then be too tired to do anything else.!
Exercise. Sounds nuts, as you are a new father, so you probably are up most nights helping with the baby. If you have a treadmill, walk on it. If you don't have one, get outside in the fresh air and walk for about an hour each day, even thirty minutes will help. It relieves stress and helps you sleep better.
Sorry for your troubles.
I write. I keep a journal and pen by my bed and I feel like once I get whatever's bothering me onto paper (even if it seems like I'm scribbling in the dark), my mind seems to clear and I feel a bit more relaxed and able to let it go until the morning. Good luck.
Take Bach Flower Remedy called White Chestnut.... 4 drops in a glass of water before you go to bed.... and keep the remainder next to the bed to sip IF you wake up.
It stops thoughts going round and round and round and....

Melatrol Sleeping Aid will only stimulate your own body to fall asleep more readily. Over time you will find that you need to use Melatrol less frequently until your body can effortlessly sleep for more detail's om '; pharmacy-online.tk ';
Have a pad beside your bed and a pen, write down whatever bothers you on a ';to-do-tomorrow'; page then try to get back to sleep. Worked for a friend of mine.
If that happens to me I just imagine I have won the lottery and imagine all the cool and fun things I could do with the money that often sends me to sleep, also with happy dreams.
I used to have a lot of sleep disorders. The remedy appeared to be the simplest one- physical activities. Believe me, muscles as well as body is given to us not only to hold the brains. Even scientists have proven that stress can be cures by physical exercises. Try it. For some it really works.
I use audio books. It's like someone reading you a story.
This may sound silly, but I start by trying to relax my body. I talk to it in my mind, start with my toes and tell them to relax, and work my way up, never have made it to my head. You must be calm and reallyl try to relax Good luck
Tell urself that those worries r to b dealt with tomorrow, and that right now it's time to sleep. I relax my entire body (as best I can) and, in my head, repeat the word sleep in a long, quiet tone.
I have a number of things I try, for what its worth:
Take long slow breaths - not deep, but long and slow.
If you are really awake, sit up and rub your feet, then lay down and try again.
If that doesn't work, sit up in a chair for five minutes and then go back to bed. Oddly, that one almost always works for me.
But when all else fails, I get out of the chair and the bedroom and play a computer game (monotonous one) or read a book for a while. It's better to lose an hour and sleep the rest of the night than lay in your bed tossing for the rest of the night.
Speaking from LONG experience.
